Need a last minute gift? Perhaps technology can help you create something inspiring.

Holy smokes, it's Christmas week already! Man, I don't know about you, but this year flew by. Are you in good shape, all ready for Christmas?  I am pretty good. I have some baking to finish, and things to get ready at home to host our families. But, hey I have 3 recruits in training (aka child labor) in my kids who are off all week.

So, with the whirlwind of ads and articles for the best gifts to get the ones you love. I thought today I would take a bit of a different spin. I am going to focus on the pure pleasure of homemade gifts or true gifts from the heart. As you can probably imagine, being a Mom of 3, over the years I have amassed quite the collection of handmade items. I have hand prints times three, turkey hand prints, snowflakes, etc. But, I wouldn't trade them for the world. In fact, the picture, on the left, is just a small sample of the handmade gifts we have. The ornaments are from the girls, the snowman is from my son and the snoozing mouse is from my Mother in Law. Our house is filled with homemade items. My Mother in Law loves to sew and craft and we have a house full of decorations for various holidays.

On the note of handmade gifts, I would love to give a special shout out to Apple. Yes, Apple for homemade gifts. You see, to me, if you have been paying attention the past few holidays, Apple encourages "homemade" or gifts from the heart. Think I am crazy?  Well, why not revisit last years "Misunderstood" ad. With the teenager "glued" to his phone. Most making the assumption he was not interested in his family. Only at the end to see the gift he presented his family, the gift of capturing everyone's laughter and joy.

Apple has again done it this year, with its ad "The Song".  This is a gift from Granddaughter to Grandmother. It features a duet made with the app Garage Band and the iPad mini. The outcome is a modern day rendition of the song "Love is Here to Stay". The gift of song is presented to the Grandmother via an iPod and earbuds with a few old photos.

Yes, Apple is showcasing their products in these ads, but if you miss out on the heartfelt gestures behind the technology you surely are the Grinch. There are so many ways to give gifts from the heart. From a coloring page or cookies to handmade ornaments or home movies. Whatever you have at your fingertips. Take some time to think of your loved ones and see if Apple cannot help inspire you to give the gift that will never be forgotten.

Do you have a favorite handmade gift or something sentimental? I would love to hear all about it. Here is hoping your holidays are filled with heartfelt gifts from the heart and remember, never assume that someone is using technology to escape you. They might just be using it to create something unforgettable! Happy Holidays!
