Our partnership between SYDCON and the D155 GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math, and Science) program the past two years has been impactful for our high school and middle school participants.  In January 2016, Jennifer Devitt, VP of Business Development, contacted me about volunteering at our January event.  She and David hosted a booth for that was visited by over 100 middle school girls and their parents.  They shared their interest in coding and app development.  I was thrilled when they asked about conducting a workshop session for the January 2017 event.  Their session focused on teaching the students the basics of HTML coding.  Students enjoyed seeing their work come to life on the screen.  Additionally, on December 7,  2016, SYDCON sponsored a mini-GEMS event on coding.  Over 50 middle and high school girls participated in the event.  Jennifer graciously shared her story about her professional journey with the students.  She helped these young women to understand that career paths are not often straight and that there is room for women in all aspects of careers in the technology industry.  I look forward to an ongoing partnership with SYDCON.
